*Special* Music Moments: John Mayer Trio – Who Did You Think I Was

Published on September 11, 2011, by in Music Moments.

Hi All.

Today’s post is a special one as today is my Birthday! Yes, another year has passed and I am still loving music as much as ever.
I have just signed a deal to be apart of a huge music movement in 2012 and it is a very exciting time to be alive! More information about that venture soon!

This track is one of my all time favourites. Anyone that knows me well, knows that I am a huge fan of blues music and John Mayer in particular.
The John Mayer Trio (John Mayer, Steve Jordan & Pino Palladino) are considered as one of the best blues trios going round.

The John Mayer Trio

I had the pleasure of hanging out with John and Steve while they were on tour here in Sydney in Late 2009 and it was a night to remember.
It was a real privilege to hang out in a private bar drinking beers with John and his amazing band, talking music, geeking out about gear and just generally havin a laugh & getting drunk!

Good Times.

Speaking of getting drunk…. I’m off to do just that!!

Cheers!

Music Moments: Maceo Parker – Shake Everything You’ve Got

Published on September 1, 2011, by in Music Moments.

Hi All.

I have to admit I am on a massive Maceo Parker kick right now. I find is playing so hypnotic. I love the space in his phrasing, It is so uniquely Maceo.

Fred Wesley blasting his Trombone!

Fred Wesley playin' his Trombone like no other!

One of the beautiful things about music is the feeling you get when you experience something amazing for the first time.
Now having said that, I am no stranger to American Funk & Jazz but it wasn’t until I watched the DVD,  Maceo Parker - My First Name Is Maceo that I really got into Fred Wesley.

I have listened to Fred play before with artists like James Brown, Parliament-Funkadelic even De La Soul, but I am not sure wether it is because Fred, Pee Wee Ellis and Maceo (Known then as The JB’s) were all all so ‘in sync’ with each other. I just fell in love with his playing.

Listen to him rip it up! Especially at his solo @ 3:55

Enjoy!

Introducing ‘Music Moments’: Bono & The Edge Perform “Stuck In a Moment”

Published on July 21, 2011, by in Music Moments.

Hia.

I know its been a while since I have posted anything new up here, I have been working very hard on lots of different projects and I really haven’t had the time. One of the promises that I made to myself is that in in the future I would spend more time online and make an effort to post on here more often.
What I am going to do is start a series of posts called ‘Music Moments’. These posts are amazing songs or performances that I find on the interwebs that have inspired me or is  just a tune I happen to be listening to on high rotation at that point in time. There is no particular genres of music in mind, it will be just what ever i’m ‘into’ at that particular moment.

Thought I would start by sharing this Music Moment with you all.
Not sure if you are aware but the members of U2 and INXS were all great friends, especially Bono and the Late INXS Frontman, Michael Hutchence. I was fortunate enough to meet Michael when I was a teenager and he was a really amazing person. He had a real aura about him, even if you didn’t who Michael was, when you met him you knew that he really was someone special.

Michael and Bono were often in contact with each other and even use to spend time together holidaying in the South of France. Bono has described that ‘Stuck In a Moment’ is an angry song about an argument between two friends.

Enjoy.

Jay-Z, Kanye West, Beyonce & TradeMark!

Published on December 17, 2010, by in VegasMusic.

Hey All.

This month I had the pleasure of working for Jay-Z, Kanye West & Beyonce.

Jay-Z was in town on tour with U2 and they were working on collaborative tracks for Kanye & Jay’s new album Watch the Throne. VegasMusic was contacted by Kanye’s producer, Mike Dean to help them set up a recording studio in the mansion that they were staying in while they were in Sydney. It was a great experience working with such talented musicians!

McDonalds Campaign: Wootonia

Published on March 28, 2010, by in VegasMusic.

Hi All.

Over the past couple of weeks I have been working with Sydney based Producer/Songwriter Carl Dimataga, Sony Music and sixty40 developing the music production for the latest McDonalds campaign.
The songs are for the band ”Wootonia” and they cover 4 styles of music (Rock, Pop Hip-Hop and Emo) and the 4 members of the band perform ‘Bounce’ together to make musical magic!
Each band member also had their own song written for them & we were also asked to create two remixes for each of those songs. Thats a total of 13 tracks in all.

Introducing 'Wootonia'

This is their hit song ‘Bounce’

Studio Session: Guy Sebastian – Perfection

Published on August 14, 2009, by in Recording, VegasMusic.

Hey All.

Just wanted to let you know, we recorded a very special tune for Guy the other day. The song is called “Perfection” and it was a tune that Guy had written for his wife Jules.

It is an amazing song and Victor Row absolutely smashed the piano performance, I was seriously getting goose bumps in the studio while we tracked this one.

You can check out the song, it is on Guys’ fifth studio album Like It Like That

A little about VegasMusic & TradeMark…

Published on July 1, 2009, by in VegasMusic.

A little information about VegasMusic. Established back in 1998 by a young ambitious Audiophile that had a passion for music, but more importantly, how music was

created.

Mark working on a Mix on the Neve

TradeMark working on a Mix on a Neve VR

Mark Wellards’ love for production I guess you could say was seeded in his later years in High School when they decided to run an “untitled” musical production. Knowing that he had the musical chops to be a part of this, his real desire was to be a part of the “Backstage Crew”. Before he knew it, he was playing with profile spots, smoke machines and mixing consoles.

He found in his local newsagents a magazine called “Sound on Sound” from the UK, a great magazine full of useful musical gear reviews & production tips. After reading an article on live sound & tuning PA Systems, he decided to go to school the next day, sneak into the hall where they schools PA was and give it ago. He recalls the head teacher rubbing his head at the next rehearsal saying “I don’t know what has happened, but the PA has stopped feeding back – It sounds great!”

He knew from that point on, that he was a “Sound Guy”

During his time studying and recording bands, Mark also attacked the “Live” music scene working for peanuts in local pubs and clubs doing what he loved. He had also got involved with what he calls the “Largest Live Pub Gig” of his career, getting on one of the many crews for the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games. This time was a steep learning curve for him. Fast forward a over a decade and he is now much the wiser in the audio game and between running VegasMusic, Mark (also known as ‘TradeMark’) was busy producing bands and managing artists. TradeMark has already signed on to be working in late 2010 with some of Australia’s premier artists and is due to launch his own Record & Management Company in mid 2013.

Stay tuned for more information.
